Things you Need to know before going to Greece.

I don't know about you, but Greece has always been in my bucket list & this summer I got to check that off!

It sure was the most amazing vacation EVER. Super glad I got to visit Athens, Santorini, Mykonos & Ikaria. Make sure if you are thinking about visiting Greece you do your research so you can be well prepared, here are some of my tips:

  • Wear comfortable shoes, you are going to do a lot of walking...I mean it!

  • If you are anything like me, I know you want to coordinate your outfits for picture purposes and it is easy to overpack, believe me, you will find some of the cutest hats, dresses and SHOES (they definitely have shoes in every corner) so pack light and leave some room to bring some goodies back. I only had a carry on and a backpack, I sure was glad to not have a big luggage to carry around.

  • Public transportation is the easiest and cheapest way to get around, so don't be afraid to hop on the bus or metro.

  • Download the “beat” app, pretty much the Uber of Greece (no commission rate).

  • When going to Santorini definitely look into staying in Oia. Oia is a costal town in the Northwestern tip of Santorini with all the white washed villages you see in pictures. If you want to feel like you are in a postal card, you better stay in Oia. All the shops, restaurants, bars & retail stores are within walking distance. Just picture being at the Las Vegas strip with a WAY better view.

  • Most restaurants in Oia will have the menu and pricing right outside, so keep that in mind if you are trying to stay in budget.

  • If you have more than 1 day in Santorini, definitely look into taking a boat tour, this will take you to 3 different beaches all while drinking, eating amazing food and best of it all, you get to watch the sunset :)

  • You will see stray cats and dogs everywhere, specially cats. Feel free to feed and pet them.

  • If you have curly hair, don’t worry about straightening it, keep it curly and you will fit right in!

  • Jeans are not a necessity, I packed one pair and I wore it just on the plane back. Shorts is the way to go.

  • Baseball hats are a good idea.

  • Carry a crossbody, don’t worry about bringing your purse.

  • The architecture was so astonishing. Santorini is characterized by its cycladic architecture, white and blue painted villages standing on top of the high red-colored cliffs.

  • As much as I missed my daughter I was glad I didn’t bring her, it would not have been the same experience.

Are you planning to travel anywhere this summer? Where are you going? If you've been to Greece share your experience, I would love to hear all about it.
